Jaipur, March 21 -- Rajasthan governor Haribhau Bagade on Friday described the agriculture sector as the backbone of the Indian economy, noting that a large section of the population depends on it for livelihood. Addressing the seventh convocation ceremony of Agriculture University Jodhpur, the governor said institutions must promote innovation-driven research in agriculture and technology to support climate-resilient and advanced farming practices. He stressed that modern challenges in agriculture require the use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones and robotics, which can significantly improve productivity and farmers' income. He urged graduates to carry the light of education to every section of society and work with clear goals and sustained effort. Highlighting sustainability, the governor called for greater adoption of natural farming, warning that excessive use of chemical fertilisers is harming soil health.
