After 12 years, state civil services exam returns to computer-based test to plug leakages: Official
Jaipur, June 19 -- Amid controversies over paper leaks and other recruitment-related irregularities, the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has once again shifted towards computer-based recruitment tests (CBRT), marking a significant return to online examinations after 12 years.
Recently, RPSC successfully conducted recruitment examinations for lecturer (Ayush Department) and assistant electrical inspector through the CBRT mode. Four more online examinations are proposed to be held during the current year. RPSC chairman Utkal Ranjan Sahu stated that the number of examination centres equipped for online testing is currently insufficient to conduct large-scale recruitment exams.
A day before his retirement, Sahu shared details of the reforms, innovations, and achievements undertaken during his one-year tenure. He recalled that when he assumed office on June 12, 2025, the Commission was facing severe challenges, with questions being raised about its credibility and transparency.
Sahu acknowledged that the Commission has been facing increasing workload over the past few years while operating with limited manpower, which occasionally resulted in delays in declaring results. He assured that addressing these shortcomings and ensuring time-bound examinations and result declarations would remain the Commission's top priority.
According to Sahu, RPSC issued 61 recruitment advertisements between January 1, 2024, and June 2026. During his tenure alone, 16 major recruitment notifications were released for direct recruitment to 14,536 posts. In just over a year, the Commission successfully conducted more than 187 examinations for over 4.7 million candidates.
He also revealed that from June 2025 to June 2026, recommendations for the appointment of 10,220 selected candidates were sent to the state government, reflecting the Commission's improved efficiency and commitment.
Highlighting security measures introduced in the examination system, Sahu said a seven-layer security mechanism, including numeric locking systems, was implemented to ensure complete confidentiality and protection of question papers. Additionally, extensive videography with real-time date and time stamps was conducted for every candidate's seating arrangement to prevent malpractice. As a result, all examinations were conducted with complete fairness, transparency, and zero leakage.
Sahu further emphasised the transparency and efficiency of the interview process. During his tenure, a record 14,885 candidates were interviewed, and a new benchmark was set with an average of 60 interviews conducted per working day.
To strengthen administrative efficiency and recruitment monitoring, the state government approved the creation of 20 new posts, including deputy secretaries, assistant secretaries, section officers and assistant section officers, during 2025-26.
In addition, RPSC conducted a record 666 departmental promotion committee (DPC) meetings, paving the way for the promotion of 34,986 state government employees. Sahu also highlighted reforms in service rules aimed at ensuring healthier competition among candidates. Several departments introduced minimum qualifying marks in recruitment examinations, helping eliminate anomalies where candidates with negative scores were selected due to the absence of such provisions....
