Active Lawrence gang member injured in encounter, say police
Jaipur, April 17 -- An active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Sanjay Bishnoi alias Chaddar alias Sanju (27), was apprehended after he sustained a bullet injury on Thursday during an exchange of fire with the police in Sriganganagar district, officers said.
Assistant superintendent of police of Sriganganagar district, Raghuveer Sharma, said, "Sanju is a native of Sriganganagar only. He was wanted in over 10 cases for the last few years. We went to nab him at Suratgarh when the clash erupted between him and the police."
According to the police, Sanju had been extorting money from businessmen on behalf of the Lawrence gang.
"Based on our inputs, we set up a check post at the Suratgarh bypass. When our staff spotted him approaching on a two-wheeler, he tried to flee. He opened fire at the police when we tried to stop him, prompting us to retaliate immediately," said Sharma.
During the clash, Sanju was shot at his right thigh. "He was immediately rushed to the hospital. The bullet was removed successfully. But his condition is critical. An additional police force was also deployed around the hospital. We will take him into custody as soon as he gets well," he said.
Sharma added that senior police officers also reached the bypass and examined the area where he was shot.
"Earlier, there were several attempts to nab him but he managed to flee every time. His major cases include a firing at the gate of Tantia Hospital in January 2022 in which Lawrence's cousin Sachin Thapan was also an accused. He also opened fire at a businessman's house located near the Sriganganagar-Hanumangarh state highway in 2024," the ASP said....
