ACB arrests 3 B'luru cops on bribery charge
Jaipur, June 15 -- The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday arrested a sub-inspector and two head constables of the Bengaluru Police for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in connection with a dowry harassment case.
According to the ACB, a complaint was received by its Jaipur City-I unit alleging that a dowry case had been registered against the complainant and his family at HAL Police Station in Bengaluru. The complainant alleged that a police team from Bengaluru, comprising sub-inspector Anitha K and head constables Ulvappa and Yatish, had come to Jaipur for investigation and was demanding Rs.2 lakh to dilute the case and exclude certain family members from the proceedings.
The complainant further informed the ACB that the accused officers had instructed him to meet head constable Ulvappa at a hotel in Jaipur to hand over the bribe amount.
Following a verification conducted under the supervision of deputy inspector general of police Om Prakash Meena, the ACB found the allegations to be prima facie genuine. During verification, the accused allegedly reiterated the demand and asked the complainant to arrange the money.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB conducted an operation at Gangaur Hotel in Jaipur and caught head constable Ulvappa while allegedly accepting Rs.40,000 as part of the demanded bribe amount.
Subsequently, sub-inspector Anitha K and head constable Yatish were also detained and arrested after their alleged involvement in the bribery case emerged during the investigation.
The accused are currently being questioned. The ACB said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act is being registered and further investigation is underway....
