Jaipur, Aug. 14 -- Around 75,000 students studying in government schools across Rajasthan will undergo special eye screening, with those found requiring vision correction to be provided spectacles free of cost, said health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar on Thursday. Khimsar said the initiative will carry out eye screening of students across government schools. He said timely detection of vision problems and treatment at an early stage was crucial for children. The state wants to ensure that no child's education is affected because of poor eyesight. Principal Secretary, medical and health, Gayatri Rathore said a similar exercise was conducted last year on the chief minister's directions, during which eye screening of government school students was undertaken and more than 71,000 children were provided spectacles free of cost. Under the current campaign, teams of the National Child Health Programme are conducting screening of students in government schools in coordination with block medical and health officers and block education officers. At the school level, teachers are facilitating the process using student data available on the Shala Darpan portal.
