Jaipur, Sept. 3 -- A total of 7,854 nomination papers have been rejected in several wards ahead of Rajasthan's urban local body polls, altering the electoral contest. As many as 69,309 nominations were filed for 10,245 wards across the state. Scrutiny continued until Tuesday night, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until 3pm on Thursday. The final list of contestants will be announced thereafter. In Jaipur, 1,380 of the 4,868 nominations filed for 690 wards across 19 urban bodies were rejected. The remaining 3,488 valid papers represent 3,366 candidates, as some contestants filed multiple nominations. Dausa recorded 538 rejections. In Jodhpur Municipal Corporation, 230 of 864 nominations were rejected, while Udaipur saw 74 of 379 papers declared invalid. In Kota, 473 nominations were accepted and 121 rejected. No nominations were rejected in Barmer, Sawai Madhopur and Phalodi. Around 2,550 wards do not have either a BJP or Congress candidate. The BJP has reportedly left nearly 1,050 wards uncontested, many of them in Muslim-dominated areas, while the Congress has not fielded candidates in around 1,500 wards. The BJP has left 37 wards vacant in Makrana, 25 in Danta Ramgarh, 15 in Ramgarh-Shekhawati, 14 in Hindaun City, and 13 each in Deeg and Nagaur. The Congress has no candidates in 34 wards in Deeg, 12 in Hindaun City, 11 in Makrana, and 10 each in Bhinmal and Nagaur. In Bhilwara, Congress authorisation letters for 13 of its 70 proposed candidates allegedly failed to arrive on time, leaving the party in the contest in only 53 wards. The delay has been attributed to a reported dispute between two local leaders over ticket distribution. State Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasara said the party would investigate whether the letters reached Bhilwara before 3pm deadline and why symbols were not allotted. Both parties also raised objections to rival nominations. The BJP claimed to have flagged more than 250 cases, while the Congress said it had submitted nearly 300 complaints involving alleged fake certificates, AI-generated documents and discrepancies related to party symbols. The BJP and Congress have also fielded Gen-Z candidates in the five major cities. Congress has nominated 49 such candidates-12 in Jaipur, 10 in Jodhpur, six in Udaipur, five in Ajmer and 16 in Kota.
