6-year-old girl sexually assaulted, probe on
BIKANER, Sept. 4 -- A six-year old girl was allegedly subjected to sexual assault and physical abuse in Sri Ganganagar, however police are yet to ascertain the cause of the crime as both parents of the victim made contradictory statements about the incident, police said on Thursday, in response to protest staged by family members and locals, demanding an expedited investigation into the matter.
According to police, the incident happened on August 19, but a formal complaint was registered on August 27 following statements provided by the child's mother.
Deputy SP Raghuveer Sharma said the statements provided by both the parents contradict each other.
While the mother's statement alleges assault by an unknown individual, the father separately alleged that the school's female principal struck the child with a stick during school hours, impacting her private parts and causing injuries.
Police are verifying the contradictory statements, he added.
Upon examination at a hospital in Punjab, a gynecologist raised suspicions that the child had been subjected to sexual assault or an attempted assault, which led to her illness....
