55-yr-old woman dies amid oxygen, stretcher shortage in hospital
Kota, May 5 -- A 55-year-old woman who sustained injuries in a road accident died in Kota's MBS Hospital, allegedly due to mismanagement, including the unavailability of a stretcher, oxygen cylinders and doctors at night, her family claimed, demanding action against the staff, said officials.
MBS Hospital superintendent Dharmraj Meena said, "We have formed a committee and are inquiring the matter. We are probing why the stretcher and the cylinder were not provided to her immediately and the reasons behind the delay to start her treatment."
According to officials, the incident occurred on Sunday evening after the woman, Urmila Devi, was rushed to the hospital in a 108 ambulance. Ambulance driver Leeladhar Pareta said the woman met with an accident in Itawa around 8:45 pm, following which he was rushed to the local PHC from where she was referred to the MBS Hospital in a critical condition.
"But after we reached there, no stretcher was immediately available. The hospital staff asked for her Aadhaar card. We waited at the gate for more than 15 to 20 minutes and then took her inside the hospital without the help of any stretcher," said Pareta.
Later, no oxygen cylinder was available, and meanwhile the patient's condition began deteriorating.
"Then a scuffle broke out between the patient's family and the hospital staff, following which senior officials of the hospital authority arrived on the spot and rebuked the staff for such mismanagement. However, the patient passed away even before the treatment could start properly," he said.
Her family staged a dharna afterwards, demanding action for negligence....
