43k water harvesting works completed across state: Govt
Jaipur, May 18 -- The Rajasthan government has completed soil and water conservation works across nearly 557,000 hectares under the Watershed Development Component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (WDC-PMKSY 2.0), with more than 43,000 water harvesting structures constructed or renovated across the state.
According to the state government, the works include the construction and restoration of check dams, anicuts, farm ponds and percolation tanks aimed at improving groundwater recharge and strengthening water availability in rural areas.
Ahead of the 2026 monsoon, the government has now set a target of building and renovating more than 10,000 additional water conservation structures.
Officials said the state government has already spent Rs.1,386.53 crore on the scheme till March 2026, while an additional expenditure of Rs.426.15 crore has been proposed by September 2026. The projects are expected to significantly improve water availability in villages and provide major relief to farmers and livestock owners dependent on rain-fed resources.
Under natural resource management activities, more than 45,000 works have been completed so far. The programme has also supported pastureland development, livelihood enhancement and production-related activities benefiting self-help groups across rural areas.
The government is simultaneously accelerating work under the Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan (MJSA 2.0), which aims to strengthen water conservation efforts through coordination among multiple departments. Under the campaign, around 120,000 water harvesting and conservation structures are planned in each phase, covering nearly 1.5 million hectares.
The state has set a target to complete all four phases of the campaign by June 2028....
