4 of family killed in car, bus collision
Ajmer/Nagaur, May 18 -- Four members of a family were killed when a Rajasthan Roadways bus collided head-on with the van they were travelling in, in Rajasthan's Nagaur district on Sunday, police said.
According to police, the accident occurred on the Merta-Kuchera road around 8 am. The impact was so severe that the car carrying eight members of the family was completely mangled, while the bus veered off the road and plunged into a nearby field, police said.
Three occupants of the car died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The deceased, all residents of Ravaniyana village in Jodhpur district, have been identified as Rukma Devi, 50, an Anganwadi worker; her elder son Amrish Puri, 28, a head constable in Rajasthan Police posted in Pali district; her younger son Akash Puri, 26, who was preparing for competitive examinations; and Akash's wife Neetu, 22
Four others travelling in the car sustained serious injuries. The injured include Santosh Puri, 52, Jasoda alias Jyotsna, 26, Mansi, 3, and eight-month-old Vedansh. All injured were first taken to the Community Health Centre in Ren and later referred to Merta Hospital due to their critical condition.
Kuchera Police Station in-charge Habib Khan said that police teams rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the accident. With the help of local residents, the injured were rescued and shifted to hospital. "The bodies of the deceased have been kept in the mortuary for an autopsy, and an investigation into the incident has been initiated," he said.
Meanwhile, all 15 passengers travelling in the bus heading escaped without injuries....
