Hanumangarh/ Bikaner, Sept. 3 -- A 32-year-old man was allegedly lynched and two others were injured after a mob held them captive and beat them for nearly five hours on suspicion of stealing electric wires in Hanumangarh's Tibbi area, police said on Thursday. Station house officer Rakesh Sankhla identified the deceased as Mahendra, a resident of 5 NGR Rohi Nagarana. "He was travelling with his brother Deepak Kumar and their friend Sukhchain alias Cheni when the incident occurred. A complaint has been lodged in the matter," Sankhla said. According to the complaint, the three had travelled to Fatehpur on a motorcycle and were returning to their village when the vehicle developed a problem near Malladkheda. They resumed their journey after getting it repaired. Near an orchard, a motorcycle-borne man allegedly stopped them, police said. Later five or six more people allegedly reached the spot in two cars and accused the three men of stealing electric wires and assaulted them with sticks and other weapons, police said. The victims were then allegedly forced into a car and taken to a bridge over a nearby canal, where the assault continued. Superintendent of Police, Hanumangarh, B Aadithya said that the incident took place during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. "The complainant alleged that the accused beat the victims with sticks and rods throughout the night. However, prima facie, the victim's body showed no such injury marks, he said. Police have detained two accused named in the FIR, along with three others, while investigating the role of others allegedly involved in the incident." The complaint names Rahul, son of Satpal; Ramesh, son of Deendayal; and Rajendra Kumar, along with 15-20 unidentified people. Deepak told police that he learnt the names of some of the accused after hearing them address one another during the assault. After Mahendra died, the accused allegedly made Deepak and Sukhchain leave on their motorcycle. Deepak subsequently called the police. A postmortem examination was conducted on Tuesday, following which the body was handed over to the family.
