Ajmer, April 17 -- A gang involved in cheating people by promising to convert plain paper into genuine currency notes has been busted in Ajmer district, police said, adding that three people have been arrested in connection with the case.
Acting on specific intelligence, police arrested Sadik, 40, and Sirajuddin, 35, both residents of Jaipur, and Nausad, 19, resident of Pratapgarh district on Wednesday night under Kotwali Police Station limits. A joint police team initiated surveillance and apprehended the accused during a planned action. During interrogation, it was revealed that the gang used chemically treated papers and staged demonstrations to create the illusion of real currency printing, police said.
The accused allegedly collected advance payments ranging between Rs.50,000 to Rs.5 lakh from victims. They would wrap ordinary paper with genuine currency notes and apply chemicals, later replacing the papers with original notes to deceive targets into believing the process was authentic, police said.
