Ajmer, June 24 -- Police have arrested two accused from West Bengal for allegedly siphoning off about Rs.5 lakh in scholarship funds meant for minority students through fake applications and forged digital records, officers said. According to the police, the accused exploited loopholes in the online application and document verification system of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The gang allegedly collected school DISE numbers and school names online, then used fake mobile SIM cards and Aadhaar-related details to submit fraudulent scholarship applications and divert the money into their own bank accounts. SIT in-charge Shivam Joshi said, "Preliminary investigation has indicated large-scale irregularities under the scholarship scheme in several districts of Rajasthan. In the initial phase, the probe has found that more than Rs.5 lakh was siphoned off by the accused through various bank accounts by focusing mainly on Ajmer district."
