3 Bishnoi gang members held in Raj in Pune firing, extortion case
BIKANER, July 10 -- Three alleged members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, including two linked to the firing at a steel company's office in Pune and an extortion bid of Rs.50 crore, have been apprehended in a joint operation, police said on Thursday.
Hanumangarh superintendent of police Narendra Singh Meena told HT that the joint operation by the Hanumangarh district police and Pune City Police resulted in the seizure of three foreign-made semi-automatic pistols, three magazines and 40 live cartridges. He said the arrests were made following a coordinated interstate investigation after Pune Police traced the suspects' movement to Hanumangarh.
Meena said the case relates to the June 22 firing at the office of H Vikas Steel in Pune. The attackers allegedly opened fire at the premises to intimidate the company after demanding an extortion amount of Rs 50 crore.
Pune Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the BNS, including attempt to commit culpable homicide, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence, besides the Arms Act.
A team of 100 personnel from Pune Police, including senior officers, joined hands with the Hanumangarh police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and District Special Team (DST) to track down the accused.
The first arrest was made on July 2 when Pawan, 24, a resident of in Hanumangarh Junction, was apprehended. He alleged that Pawan had carried out reconnaissance of the Pune office and arranged logistics.
The joint team arrested Ravi Kumar, a resident of Ghukkavali village in Haryana's Sirsa district on July 6, who is alleged to be one of the shooters involved in the Pune firing. A juvenile allegedly associated with the gang was also detained, Meena said.
The accused have been handed over to Pune Police on transit remand and taken to Maharashtra for further probe....
