2K substandard fertiliser, seed, samples found since 2023: meena
Jaipur, March 10 -- Agriculture minister Kirori Lal Meena told the state assembly on Monday that inspectors identified 2,220 substandard samples of fertilisers, seeds and pesticides across the state from fiscal 2023-24 through January 2026.
Replying to supplementary questions from Congress MLA Harish Chaudhary during Question Hour, Meena said inspectors periodically collect samples to ensure farmers receive quality agricultural inputs. These are tested at notified state quality control laboratories, with action initiated under relevant laws if products fail standards.
The government has boosted the annual testing capacity for agricultural input samples from 59,000 in 2024-25 to 76,250 in 2025-26-a rise of nearly 29%.
In a written reply, the minister detailed action under the Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985; Seeds Act, 1966; Seeds (Control) Order, 2023; Essential Commodities Act, 1955; and Insecticides Act, 1968, along with rules framed in 1971. So far, 466 cases have reached courts over substandard samples. Authorities have registered 117 FIRs, made 33 arrests, presented 27 challans, cancelled 39 licences, suspended 215 others and conducted 128 seizures....
