2K MW capacity: Raj ranks 3rd in country in solar rooftop adoption
Jaipur, April 23 -- Rajasthan ranks third nationwide in rooftop solar adoption, boasting an installed capacity of 2,090 MW amid booming consumer demand and robust state policies, said energy minister Heeralal Nagar.
The minister said the state has actively promoted solar energy usage. So far, 2,45,317 rooftop solar plants have been installed across domestic, commercial and industrial categories. As a result, electricity bills for 1,43,965 consumers have dropped to zero, making households increasingly energy self-reliant.
The state trails Gujarat, which leads with 6,882 MW, and Maharashtra with 5,442 MW. Around 32,000 consumers have installed rooftop systems with capacities of 10 kW or more, he said.
A major boost stems from the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, under which 1,77,468 rooftop solar units totalling 686 MW have been installed. On average, 675 to 700 new consumers adopt solar energy daily. In March alone, 20,343 installations were recorded-the second-highest monthly figure-with a single-day record of 910 on March 23. Earlier figures included 20,853 units in January and 16,957 in February.
Rajasthan ranks fifth under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, behind Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala.
The minister said adoption has accelerated sharply, with installations doubling every six months. Since the scheme's launch in February 2024, consumer numbers have jumped-from 7,694 in the first six months to 68,450 in a recent six-month period. In the first three months of this year alone, 58,153 new consumers adopted solar power, with the figure expected to exceed one lakh in the first half.
Financial incentives have fuelled growth. Subsidies of up to Rs.78,000 reach beneficiaries within one to one-and-a-half months of installation. So far, Rs.1,185 crore has been disbursed to 1,52,350 consumers, covering about 85 per cent of beneficiaries.
Under the 150-units free electricity scheme, more than 13,000 consumers have received an extra Rs.17,000 subsidy from power distribution companies in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer. Altogether, 23,273 consumers have installed systems under this scheme, with subsidies totalling over Rs.22.33 crore disbursed since December 2025.
Banks offer loans at about 5.75 per cent interest, with State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Rajasthan Gramin Bank and Canara Bank extending credit to thousands.
The vendor base has grown to 1,896 registered on the national portal, up from 762 at launch.
Power firms in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer have simplified procedures, waived upfront charges and prioritised solar applications. Awareness camps at the sub-division level encourage wider uptake.
With rising adoption, policy backing and incentives, Rajasthan is cementing its role in India's renewable energy push....
