Bharatpur/Jhunjhunu, July 10 -- A 25-year-old man was detained for allegedly stabbing his mother to death following a family dispute in Jhunjhunu district, police said on Thursday. The incident took place around midnight on Wednesday in the Krishi Upaj Mandi area of Nawalgarh town, police said. The accused, identified as Rajveer Singh, allegedly attacked his 50-year-old mother, Prabhati Devi, with a sharp-edged weapon following an altercation, police said, adding that he is employed as an Upper Division Clerk (UDC) in the Public Works Department (PWD). After the incident, Rajveer reportedly informed his sister that he had killed their mother, she then alerted the police. Officers rushed to the spot and shifted the injured woman to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead, police said. Nawalgarh police station SHO Ajay Singh said the deceased's son-in-law lodged an FIR under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and he was detained on Wednesday night. Police said the accused's wife and son had been living at her maternal home for the past five years due to a marital dispute. At the time of the incident, only Rajveer and his mother were present in the house, police said.
