Udaipur/Jaipur, July 18 -- A 23-year-old woman succumbed to post-childbirth complications at a community health centre in Banswara district on Friday, bumping the toll of recent maternal deaths in the state to over 22 reported since May. Officials said that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report from the state government over the deaths. The deceased was identified Sarla from Tejpura village in Banswara's Anandpuri. She was admitted to the Gangardatali Community Health Centre (CHC) on Thursday evening and delivered her child around midnight. Family members said her blood pressure dropped sharply a few hours later and her condition worsened, prompting a transfer to Banswara's MG Hospital, where she died at around 6am. Hospital officials have denied the allegations, saying the patient received proper medical attention and that the facts would be clear after the official inquiry. Officials said the woman was administered a unit of blood meant for another patient. Preliminary findings suggested that the mix-up occurred because another patient with the same name and blood group was admitted, and both women's husbands also shared the same name, they added. The affected woman was shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital and is currently under treatment in the ICU. Dr SN Medical College's principal Dr BS Jodha said appropriate action would follow the inquiry. The NHRC has issued a notice to the chief secretary, seeking a report within two weeks, the commission said in an official statement....
