16 people held after clashes in Jodhpur: Cops
Jodhpur, March 29 -- At least 16 people were detained for questioning after clashes broke out in Jodhpur's old city late on Friday, police said on Saturday, adding that route marches were underway to maintain law and order in the area.
According to a police officer aware of the matter, the dispute arose after a group of men allegedly misbehaved with a procession of women returning from the Ghudla fair after offering water at the Turji Ka Jhalra stepwell as part of ongoing Gangaur festivities.

This spurred the chaos in the area further, said police officers deployed to prevent the violence from spiralling.
Jodhpur commissioner of police Sharat Kalviraj reportedly arrived at the spot after the incident and attempted to calm both sides.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he said that the exact cause of the incident was still under investigation and CCTV footage, mobile videos and statements were being collected.
Deputy commissioner of police (East) Manish Choudhary said that a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the BNS was registered over the matter.
Chaudhary said that the 16 detained people belonged to both groups involved in the scuffle.
Statements of women who participated in the procession as well as residents of nearby areas are being recorded, he said. He added that the situation is currently peaceful and under control....
