15k challans issued in mega traffic drive
Jaipur, June 3 -- Rajasthan Police conducted a massive statewide checkpoint and enforcement drive on June 1, issuing more than 15,000 traffic challans, arresting hundreds of offenders and seizing illegal weapons, narcotics, liquor and Rs.25.5 lakh in cash as part of a crackdown on crime and traffic violations.
The "Mega Naka-bandi" operation was launched across the state on the directions of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma to strengthen crime control, curb anti-social activities and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) VK Singh said 1,103 checkpoints were established across all police ranges and commissionerates during the special drive. Police teams conducted intensive checks on 74,872 vehicles, including 39,984 two-wheelers and 34,888 four-wheelers, and arrested 226 accused persons during the operation.
Police issued 15,083 challans across Rajasthan during the statewide enforcement drive, taking action against traffic rule violators. The challans included 3,234 cases of riding without helmets, 1,648 for not wearing seat belts, 184 for using mobile phones while driving, 1,653 for number plate violations and 1,643 for vehicles fitted with illegal black films. Another 6,433 challans were issued for various other traffic offences.
The crackdown also targeted drunken driving, with action taken against 385 motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol. Alongside traffic enforcement, police kept a close watch on suspicious activities during the drive. During the operation, 11 vehicles were seized and 73 criminal cases registered under various laws. These included four cases under the Arms Act, 30 under the Excise Act, two under the NDPS Act and 37 under different Special and Local Laws.
Police arrested 63 accused in these cases, while 163 individuals were detained under Section 170 of the BNS on suspicion of involvement in criminal activities. The operation also led to several significant recoveries across different regions of the state.
In Jaipur Range, police seized five vehicles and recovered cash worth Rs.25.50 lakh. In Bharatpur Range, authorities intercepted a tractor allegedly involved in illegal sand transportation and seized a large quantity of illicit country liquor. Kota Range police recovered illegal liquor, doda chura (poppy husk), vehicles and speaker-amplifier equipment, while Bikaner Range police carried out action against illegal liquor operations and vehicle-related offences.
Jaipur Range also topped the state in vehicle inspections, with police checking 13,589 vehicles during the drive....
