'Somnath symbol of India's cultural pride'
Jaipur, May 12 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday said the Somnath Temple represents India's Sanatan culture, national pride and unshakable faith, asserting that despite repeated attacks and destruction by foreign invaders, the temple rose again each time with greater grandeur and self-respect.
Addressing the "Somnath Swabhiman Parv" programme at Jharkhand Mahadev Temple, Sharma said the country's rich cultural heritage and civilisational values must be preserved and passed on to future generations. He also urged the youth to embrace Indian cultural values and actively contribute towards building a strong and self-reliant India.
The chief minister joined via video conferencing the "Somnath Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations being held at Somnath Temple in Gujarat, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sharma said programmes marking 75 years of the temple's reconstruction were being celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across India, including in every district of Rajasthan.
The temple was ceremonially consecrated in 1951 by India's first President Rajendra Prasad.
Sharma said the grand reconstruction of Somnath Temple symbolised that the power of creation was always stronger than destruction.
"Our culture teaches us not to bend or break, but to emerge stronger after every challenge," he said....
