'Govt must take steps to resolve Panchana issue'
Jaipur, June 19 -- Congress national general secretary Sachin Pilot has urged the state government to take immediate action to resolve the Panchana Dam dispute, which has become a major issue in Rajasthan, by establishing dialogue with all stakeholders and ensuring compliance with the High Court's order. Speaking to the media on Thursday, he said, "water is a necessity for everyone and that under no circumstances should tensions arise or brotherhood be strained over the issue."
It is noteworthy that the Panchana Dam has been a source of tension between farmers in Sawai Madhopur and Karauli districts for a long time. The High Court has issued directives on the matter, but these have not yet been implemented on the ground. In this context, Pilot made an important statement, saying, "The movement regarding the Panchana Dam has been going on for a long time, and all parties involved have their own concerns and demands. The farmers of the 360 villages along the river also have their own perspective. It is the government's responsibility to engage all stakeholders in dialogue and find a solution while respecting the decisions of the judiciary." Pilot also accused the BJP-led central government of engaging in political manoeuvring among MPs to pass the delimitation bill. He said, "This time, the public gave the BJP 240 MPs. The NDA coalition is running the government, but the BJP did not receive a two-thirds majority. Because of this, the delimitation bill could not be passed. The BJP is now trying to create a manufactured mandate to bring back the same bill so that it can implement delimitation." "The correct approach is to conduct a census first and then carry out delimitation. But the BJP wants to do delimitation first," he added.
However, the BJP strongly denied all of Pilot's allegations. state BJP chief spokesperson Ramlal Sharma said, "The government is reviewing the ground-level preparations required to implement the High Court's directions regarding the Panchana Dam. The objective is to ensure that no conflict arises between the two communities. The court's orders will be complied with soon."...
