Jaipur, Sept. 26 -- BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Friday hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks questioning why BJP governments repeatedly return to power despite anti-incumbency, saying the party's confidence stemmed from its work for people and the trust it had earned. Addressing a 'Seva Sankalp Sabha' at Dadiya near Jaipur, Nabin referred to Gandhi's remarks at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday, where the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha questioned how BJP leaders could speak with confidence about remaining in power for decades. Gandhi had argued that anti-incumbency was a normal feature of electoral politics but appeared to have "disappeared" in several states in the case of the BJP. "Rahul Gandhi was asking why BJP governments keep returning to power and why BJP leaders say that we will serve the people for the next 25 years. He asks how they can say this with such confidence," Nabin said. "This confidence comes from serving the people. It comes from winning their trust and working for them," he said. Nabin attributed the BJP's electoral confidence to welfare schemes and changes he said had improved people's lives under the Narendra Modi government. "When more than four crore houses are built for the poor, their blessings come to us in the form of votes. When toilets are built for 12 crore poor women and they are able to live with dignity, their blessings come to us in the form of votes". Referring to the Swachh Bharat Mission, Nabin said the Modi government had expanded the focus on cleanliness from individual households to neighbourhoods, villages and cities. Nabin also highlighted direct benefit transfers, saying government assistance was now reaching beneficiaries directly through their bank accounts. "This dedication to service is what inspires us. This is the reason people have faith in us". He urged newly elected representatives in the recent urban local body elections to ensure that government schemes reached the last person and that they remained connected with people and their problems. Referring to the civic poll results, Nabin said they reflected public support for the "double-engine" government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma in Rajasthan. CM Sharma, who addressed the gathering before Nabin, said his government was working towards Modi's vision of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas". He claimed the Congress was steadily shrinking and said people had reposed their faith in the BJP....
