Jaipur, Sept. 2 -- Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore on Tuesday expressed confidence that the party would secure a landslide victory in the civic elections, claiming that the welfare initiatives of the Narendra Modi-led central government and the Bhajanlal Sharma government had received widespread public support. Rathore, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, said feedback received from party workers indicated a favourable response to the BJP's development programmes. He accused the previous Congress government of forming civic wards on the basis of "appeasement politics" and claimed that urban development had suffered under Congress-led municipal bodies. "The Congress believes in cut commissions, while the BJP believes in a mission of public service," Rathore said, alleging that corruption had continued in civic bodies governed by the Congress. He claimed that the BJP government had accomplished more development work in 31 months than the previous Congress government had during its five-year tenure. The Congress rejected Rathore's claims and accused the BJP government of relying on rhetoric rather than development. Rajasthan Congress general secretary and spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi claimed the previous Congress government had expanded medical and road infrastructure, while the BJP had largely made announcements.
