Haldwani, Sept. 4 -- A tiger was tranquillised and captured by the forest department during a late-night operation in Almora district's Mohan area, following a series of suspected fatal big cat attacks on humans, officials said on Thursday. The tiger has been shifted to the Dhela Rescue Centre in Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR), where veterinarians have collected biological samples, forest officials said. The samples have been sent to the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, and the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, for forensic examination to determine whether the captured animal was involved in the recent attacks, they added. According to Almora sub-divisional officer (SDO) Kakul Pundir, the forest department intensified surveillance after a tiger allegedly attacked and killed a 21-year-old woman at Ghodidhar Tok under Dabra Saural gram sabha in the Mohan range on August 3. She had gone near her house to feed livestock when the attack took place, prompting the forest department to launch an extensive search operation in the area. The breakthrough came on Wednesday night after the tiger killed a domestic animal in a village located along the forest fringe at around 8.45 pm. "The tiger returned to the kill at around 11 pm, after which it was successfully tranquilised and taken into custody," Pundir said....
