Dehradun, June 16 -- Police on Monday arrested a 21-year-old man in Dehradun's Patel Nagar area for killing his elder brother for allegedly being reprimanded for his wasteful spending, officers said.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Shahid Haroon, killed his elder brother, Sohail, 25, an advocate, at their home on Sunday night and later attempted to mislead investigators by claiming that unidentified assailants had entered the house and opened fire. Shahid also incited villagers to stage a protest by placing Sohail's body on the Dehradun-Paonta National Highway in an attempt to divert suspicion from himself. police said. Senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said, "Shahid, who is allegedly addicted to drugs and known for lavish spending, frequently sought money from family members and Sohail often reprimanded him for his habits."
After their parents left for Haj around three weeks ago, Sohail discovered that Shahid had secretly taken their father's ATM card and withdrawn nearly Rs.10 lakh from his account, and spent money on personal indulgences.
Police said Shahid shot Sohail with a country-made .32 bore pistol on Sunday night and concealed the weapon in the bathroom after the crime....
