Heavy rainfall lashes U'khand; six stranded during trek, rescued
Mussoorie, Aug. 19 -- Authorities in vulnerable areas were on high alert as heavy rainfall lashed the state up till 8.30am on Tuesday. Landslides blocked key roads and waterlogging disrupted daily life in several areas.
In Dehradun district, six students trekking near the Swarna river in Misras Patti were stranded after sudden heavy rain caused the river to swell rapidly.
A team from SDRF's Dakpathar unit trekked nearly six kilometres through difficult terrain and rescued all of them at around 2 am on Tuesday. Officials said they were handed over to the district police and were reportedly safe.
In Uttarkashi, landslides temporarily blocked sections of the Yamunotri and Gangotri highways near Durbil and Jungle Chatti respectively.
In Chamoli, a landslide caused mud and debris to accumulate inside the Kalpeshwar Mahadev Temple and disrupted the route used by devotees to reach the shrine, which is among the Panch Kedar shrines. District disaster management officer NK Joshi said disaster management teams were deputed to clear up the debris.
Heavy rainfall in Dehradun also uprooted a tree and caused a temporary road blockade near MKP College, said officials....
