HC extends stay on hry's stilt+4 floors policy until April 17
Chandigarh, April 9 -- The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday extended its stay on the Haryana government's July 2, 2024 notification permitting "stilt + 4 floor" structures in urban areas, with the interim order continuing till the next hearing on April 17.
A bench of chief justice Sheel Nagu and justice Sanjiv Berry, adjourning due to lack of time, directed the earlier stay to remain. The April 8 interim order observed the policy "appears to prioritise revenue over public safety": "It appears that the State of Haryana, merely to earn more revenue, has put the safety and security of members of the general public at stake."
The court flagged the absence of an infrastructure capacity audit, noting authorities ignored that "important aspect". Petitions by residents of Gurugram and Panchkula challenge the notification by the additional chief secretary, Town and Country Planning Department....
