DGP: Identifying all spreaders of misinformation
Dehradun, June 25 -- The state police has begun to identify and initiate legal action against people who allegedly spread misinformation and provocative content regarding the recent clashes between Sikh pilgrims and locals at Karnaprayag and the four-day standoff between a group of seven Nihang Sikhs and district authorities at a gurdwara at Rudraprayag's Nagrasu, state director general of police Deepam Seth said on Wednesday.
Seth said that both incidents were brought under control through the aid of various organisations and "great patience and restraint".
"However, following these incidents, some individuals used objectionable language and made offensive comments. We have taken serious note of this. Concerned officers have been directed to immediately initiate legal action against those involved," he said.
"Individuals and social media accounts spreading violence, anarchy, hatred, fear, misinformation and provocative posts are being identified, and strict legal action has already been initiated against them," he added....
