Defiant Rawat proceeds with Kumaon yatra
Dehradun, Oct. 6 -- Former chief minister and senior state Congress leader Harish Rawat's "Dhanyawad and Jansanwad Yatra" entered its Kumaon leg at US Nagar district's Jaspur on Monday, despite objections by the party's state-in-charge Kumari Selja, who earlier wrote to Rawat advising against staging the yatra in view of upcoming assembly elections in the state and the "need to present a united party front".
The development comes as the party is preparing to take its election campaign up a notch as the time for voting nears. It is also not the first instance of differences surfacing between Rawat, a former Union minister
In a letter to Rawat dated October 1 but made public on Sunday, Seljia, who is also All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, wrote, "It has come to our attention that you are undertaking a yatra in the state.
This has neither been discussed with the undersigned, nor with the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president," she said....
