Meerut, Sept. 25 -- Bareilly police have busted a gang and arrested five members allegedly involved in cheating Agniveer recruitment aspirants by promising to help them clear physical and medical tests, said officials on Thursday. The accused have been identified as Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vishal Yadav, Rajveer alias Kailash, Dharmendra Singh and Noor Ahmad. Police said another alleged gang member, identified as Asif, is absconding. Six mobile phones, Rs.9,100 in cash, a motorcycle, a scooter, forged documents and fake Aadhaar cards were recovered from the accused, police said. Superintendent of police (city) Manush Parik said the arrests were made on September 23 near the Harmajan Gate of the Jat Regimental Centre. According to police, the gang members posed as Army or hospital personnel and assured recruitment aspirants that they could facilitate their selection in return for money. During interrogation, police found that an accused Pradeep Kumar Sharma runs physical training classes under the name Dixit Defence Academy in Chaubari. He allegedly targeted candidates who were worried about being declared medically or physically unfit during the recruitment process, the SP said. Police said another accused Vishal Yadav had previously worked as a sanitation worker in the medical corps at the Lucknow centre and allegedly used his experience there to establish credibility among candidates. Noor Ahmad allegedly introduced himself as a carpenter working at a military hospital and claimed to have contacts with senior Army officers, according to police. Another accused, Asif, allegedly posed as a senior Army officer while interacting with candidates, helping the gang create the impression that it had access to influential personnel who could facilitate their selection. Police said the gang members allegedly divided the money collected from candidates after their selection. Investigators also examined the mobile phones seized from the accused and found WhatsApp conversations, medical unfit certificates, screenshots of admit cards and evidence of online transactions, police said. Copies of Aadhaar cards carrying different names and dates of birth were also recovered. Police said recruitment programme-related documents and medical papers were found in the boot of the scooter seized from the accused. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 340 (forgery) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with other relevant provisions....
