Assailants open fire at car in N Delhi, one hurt
New Delhi, Feb. 25 -- At least three unidentified assailants allegedly opened fired at a car near ISBT Kashmere Gate in north Delhi on Tuesday, police said, adding that, according to a preliminary probe, one of the people in the car was the spouse of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's advocate. Another one of the passengers was injured. Joint commissioner of police (central range) Madhur Verma who visited the spot confirmed the incident. According to an officer aware of the matter, around 10:30 pm, police received information regarding multiple rounds being fired near ISBT Kashmere Gate. "When police reached the spot, they were informed that unidentified assailants fired several rounds at a car. One person had sustained injuries," the officer said.
So far, police said, it appears that there were at least three assailants sitting on a scooter and one of them fired into the car, a Maruti Ciaz, from behind. However, a detailed probe and a review of nearby CCTV footage will shine more light on the incident. The officer quoted above added that five men were in the car and a man, identified only as Sandeep, who was sitting at the back sustained a bullet injury near his shoulder.
"Another man, who identified himself as Deepak Khatri, was also in the car. He had initially claimed he was an advocate and represented Bishnoi," the officer said. However, a preliminary investigation showed that Khatri's wife, Rajni Khatri, is Bishnoi's lawyer and Sandeep works at an NGO.
"Statements of the occupants of the car and locals are being recorded. Crime and forensics team has been called and CCTV footage is being obtained," the officer said. A case will be registered under relevant sections in due course, said police....
