2 employees killed after fire guts Amazon warehouse in Haldwani
Rudrapur, June 7 -- Two employees were killed after a fire erupted inside a warehouse belonging to the e-commerce giant Amazon in Uttarakhand's Haldwani late on Friday night, police said on Saturday.
They added that the warehouse was contracted to a third-party firm. The deceased were identified as Narendra Prasad (35) and Amit Arya (25). City superintendent of police Manoj Katyal said the warehouse was located in Jeetpur Negi village on Rampur Road.
Officials said the fire department was alerted at around 11 pm. The warehouse was reportedly closed when the fire broke out.
"Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information. Two employees died in the fire. The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is underway," said Katyal.
Firefighters had to break open the shutters before launching firefighting operations. Officials said that by the time they arrived, the warehouse was completely engulfed in flames.
A scooter and a tempo parked at the premises were also destroyed in the fire.
Police officers familiar with the matter said the bodies were sent to Sushila Tiwari Hospital for post-mortem examination and their families were informed. Amazon did not respond to HT's request for comment....
