What's in a name: Why FSSAI is cracking down on the 'energy drink' branding

n Wednesday, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) posted on Instagram that it has issued notices to six beverage brands over "misbranding and misleading claims" linked to products marketed as "energy drinks".
FSSAI said it has not notified a standard for "energy drink or similar products" as a category, but several companies use the term on packaging and marketing.
The regulator stated, "Functional or therapeutic claims, including but not limited to those pertaining to boosting energy, aiding general weakness, or similar conditions, are not permissible for food products under the FSS Act 2006 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder." htc...
