Weaving women's stories into chikankari

ntroduced to the intricate craft traditions of Awadh by her mother-in-law, Anjul Bhandari soon found herself drawn to the delicate beauty of chikankari and kamdaani. What began as curiosity gradually turned into a lifelong passion. Over the years, she devoted herself to studying the craft, identifying master artisans, and working closely with them to preserve and elevate their artistry.
From the very beginning, her label set out to do more than simply create ensembles. The brand aimed to reimagine chikankari. Traditionally seen on cotton and worn mainly in the summer, the craft was admired for its delicacy but remained limited in scope. Anjul helped change that perception by introducing intricate ek taar chikankari - a style so fine and detailed that it became a benchmark in itself. The label also revived the fading art of kamdaani, transforming it into a shimmering element of couture.
Over time, chikankari evolved beyond seasonal cottons into bridal wear, heirloom pieces and red-carpet creations. Enriched with zardozi, mukaish and resham, and rendered in the label's signature pastel palette, the craft took on a new life. What was once associated with summer wear has now emerged as a timeless expression of elegance.
Yet at the heart of this revival are the artisans, especially women. Through the label's work, many women artisans from Lucknow have found new opportunities, financial independence and renewed pride in their craft.
