India, Aug. 6 -- Your daily Metro commute can now help reduce textile waste. Arpan Kendra collection boxes are being installed across 10 Delhi Metro stations, where commuters can donate used clothes for reuse and recycling. The facility is operational at Punjabi Bagh West, Mayur Vihar Phase-I, Shalimar Bagh, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and Shahdara, and will soon expand to Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Dwarka and Mohan Estate. The process is fully digital. Donors scan a QR code at the kiosk, enter basic details and receive a digital certificate after verification, while collections are tracked through a centralised dashboard. "All the collected textiles will come to our facility where they will be sorted. The ones that are in good condition will be distributed to NGOs," says Archish Kansal of Respun, the clothes recycling service executing the initiative. Clothes that cannot be reworn, he says, will be repurposed by women-led self-help groups. "I've had two heavy bags of winter clothes sitting in my closet for months," says Rohan Verma, 28, a Delhi-based corporate consultant who finally donated them after spotting the collection box at Shalimar Bagh Metro station. "It's such a practical idea for working parents," says Supriya Sharma, 25, a school teacher who commutes via Lajpat Nagar and plans to donate her children's outgrown clothes once an Arpan Kendra opens there. "Knowing that this small initiative on my part will also support women-led self-help groups makes me feel even better about contributing towards it," she adds....
