India, June 1 -- On May 27, as shooter Esha Singh stood atop the podium in Munich with a gold medal and a world record in the women's 25m pistol event, the loudest cheers came from the stands. Her parents were there to witness a dream decades in the making. For Esha's father Sachin Singh, a former off-road rally driver, the journey began when his daughter discovered shooting at the age of nine. "I always knew she was a talented sports person... But once she set her heart on shooting, I knew that if she was to do this professionally and represent the country then there was only one thing she would need and that is discipline. So, I retired to make a dream come true," he tells us. While father and daughter travelled for training and competitions, Esha's mother Srilatha managed the family's sports goods store. "Esha's first pistol cost Rs.70,000, which was almost double of what I spent on my first bike!" recalls Sachin. For Esha, the connection between her father's world and her own has always felt natural. "I was so accustomed to the high decibels at dad's rallies. I think that is also what attracted me to shooting... Growing up, I was always around cars and bikes... It was all adrenaline. But, it was something at the shooting range where my father took me, first in 2014, which just felt like home!" she says. Today, the sacrifices have translated into medals, records and an Olympic appearance. Yet, for the family, the achievement belongs to all three of them. "No parent would ever regret it. She is my child and her dream is our dream," says Sachin....
