outh Korean actor-singer Seo In-guk is returning to the romance genre after nearly a decade of playing intense, layered characters. In the office romcom See You At Work Tomorrow, he plays Kang Si Woo, an efficiency-driven boss known as the '3 Nos Man: No Smiles, No People and No Sorry.'
In the Prime Video web series, Si Woo never expects to get involved with colleague Ji Yoon (Park Ji Hyun), but as sparks fly in the workplace, the pair must navigate the complications of a secret office romance. For Seo, that tension is exactly what makes the genre so compelling.
"The fact that there's so much risk involved in an office romance hooks viewers in. They feel like they're in on the secret with the characters," says Seo over a Zoom call from Seoul.
Over the years, the 38-year-old has built a reputation for versatility in shows, moving from a high-school student in Reply 1997 and a warm-hearted heir in Shopping King Louie to darker roles in Hello Monster, Death's Game and Cafe Minamdang. When it comes to choosing projects, he says the deciding factor is always the story.
"The most important factor for me is the narrative. Who do the characters meet? How do they respond to it? What events do they go through and how do they grow?" he says.
Seo reveals that finding the right balance between story and character can sometimes be tricky. "At times, even when you have a great narrative, you can't get yourself to love the character, and that can be a difficult one to choose. Then there are times when you feel drawn to the character but don't really like the plot. Also, one's responsibility doesn't end there. I want to create something that is appealing for viewers," he signs off....
