The Capital marks stars, stripes and 250 years of swagger
India, April 18 -- US Ambassador Sergio Gor kicked off a double celebration this week, marking the start of the "Freedom 250" festivities to honour 250 years of American independence (to be celebrated on July 4).
The event was held at the Roosevelt House, which has officially reopened its doors after being closed for renovations for the past five years.
The reception drew a distinguished crowd, including the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
The evening also had its share of lighthearted moments, courtesy a social media post by senior politician Shashi Tharoor. Sharing a photo from the reception on X, the MP recounted a witty exchange with British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron. Tharoor noted that both India and the United States share a unique bond, they are each celebrating their freedom from the British Empire, or, as he cheekily put it, "freedom from her ancestors."
