India, Aug. 31 -- As Delhi University's Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) prepares to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Teachers' Day (September 5), alumnus Barun Kashyap could not be prouder. For the screenwriter, the college's centenary celebrations come in the same year that he earned national recognition for co-writing the web series Operation Safed Sagar. A 2013 graduate of BA (Hons) Economics, Kashyap admits, "I already knew I didn't want to make a living in Economics." Instead, SRCC gave him the freedom to explore his creative interests. He played music, joined the college's photography society and became part of Students in Free Enterprise, now known as Enactus. "We used to design business models for socially disadvantaged groups," he says, adding that one such project involved developing a microfinance model for rickshaw pullers in North Campus. His writing career also began taking shape on campus. In his second year, Kashyap started writing promotional content for Discovery India through A Little Anarky Films, founded by his college senior Koval Bhatia. "This was technically my film school. I learnt everything from pre-production to post-production there," he recalls, adding that he also met filmmaker Imtiaz Ali during his days at SRCC. Though he was "barely in class", Kashyap says the faculty encouraged students to pursue their interests. "SRCC gave me a lot of exposure and raised my confidence because I come from a small town, Guwahati. The college and the faculty really encouraged me."...
