Scam alert! DU admission calls target aspirants
India, July 9 -- With Delhi University (DU) admission season in full swing, aspirants filling out preference sheets are being targeted by scammers posing as DU representatives, promising admission to top colleges in exchange for money.
Tanya Rathi, an aspirant from Ghaziabad, says, "My father received a call from someone saying, 'I'm from DU'. They promised to fill my preference sheet in a way that would ensure I got the college I wanted, and asked for Rs.50,000."
Rehan Chandra from Jaipur recalls being offered a supposed management quota seat: "When I said I wanted to get admission in Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), but my CUET score might not be enough, the person claimed management quota seats were available and demanded Rs.1 lakh," he shares.
For Delhi-based aspirant Riya, what made the scam believable was how informed the callers sounded. "They knew the admission process inside out... it felt like I was talking to a genuine counsellor. But when they asked for Rs.60,000 to secure my preferred college, I knew something was fishy," she says.
Haneet Gandhi, DU's dean of admissions, reiterates that admissions are conducted only through the official CSAS portal. "Any student receiving such calls should not think twice and report them to the concerned authorities immediately," she says...
