Revolution kabhi khatam nahin hota: Jeet on student protests
India, Aug. 17 -- Bengali actor Jeet gained recognition amongst the Hindi audience for his performance in the series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. He recently starred in Keu Bole Biplobi Keu Bole Dakat, a Bengali film based on freedom fighter Ananta Singh's life, who participated in the Chittagong armoury raid in 1930.
With the recent student protests in Delhi and Jharkhand against paper leaks, the actor says he saw a striking parallel between the spirit of these students and the freedom struggle. "Every generation can relate to Ananta kyunki revolution kabhi khatam nahin hota hai. Ab hum apne ghar mein ladai kar rahe hain, pehle bahar walon ke gulam the. Ab naam ke liye gulaam nahin hain, par kahin na kahin aaj ek alag ladayi hai," he shares.
Ananta Singh's life has previously been portrayed in Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010) by actor Maninder Singh and in Chittagong (2012) by actor Jaideep Ahlawat. Despite the film's pan-Indian appeal owing to the patriotic theme, the actor-producer chose not to release it nationwide. It was released on Independence Day in West Bengal.
Explaining why, he shares, "The necessity of the story is to have more of a local connection. Also, the data of the last few years say that all the films released pan-India haven't performed that well... So, the concept of pan-India films is dissolving somewhere."
After Khakee, Jeet is yet to announce a new Hindi project. Ask him why the wait, and he says, "I never even chased Khakee; it just got made into a Bengal chapter and came to me. So whatever is written for me in future will reach me."...
