India, July 23 -- He topped the JEE Mains with a perfect score of 300/300 this year, secured an All India Rank (AIR) 2 at JEE Advanced last month, and now he has won gold for India at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2026! Kabir Chhillar was part of the four-member team that won four gold medals at the competition in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The 17-year-old Gurugrammer could easily be typecast as a studious youngster whose life revolves around academia, but he is quick to dismiss this stereotype. "I know as a student I can be portrayed as a nerd, but I am not your quintessential geek," he says, adding, "Yes, to win a gold at the world stage, I have put in hours of work and studied for nights on end. But I have many other passions than just academics, and that is the key to excelling. I love my sports and music. And it's not classical music; I am a fan of Drake and all things hip-hop!" Chhillar, who is a national-level chess player, a district-level footballer, and a guitarist, is now enrolled in IIT Bombay for Computer Science Engineering. But all this glory doesn't mean he didn't have to learn how to deal with disappointment. "When I got AIR 2 in JEE Advanced, it was not that it bogged me down. I missed it by just one mark, which sure pinched me. But then, at the end of the day, ranks are just a byproduct and not entirely the be all," he says. Now, Chhillar has his eyes set on his greatest dream that lies ahead: conquering space. He shares, "I want to be in outer space. I want to be an astronaut, which I will make happen!"...
