No dream is too big: St. Stephen's first woman principal's message to young women

n a first for Delhi University's St. Stephen's College, Professor Susan Elias has been appointed as the institution's first woman principal in its 140-plus-year history. "To be the first woman principal of the college is a feeling that makes me really happy. Both the college and I are happy that a woman made it meritoriously. Interestingly, I was the only woman in my interview slot... But I didn't feel they were looking for a woman candidate; it was just a coincidence," she says, adding a message to young women: "Be a continuous learner, and no dream is too big to achieve."
Interestingly, Elias, who is a double PhD (IIT-M and Anna University), says she initially came to DU as a subject expert for faculty recruitment before realising she herself was eligible for the top post. Known for her research background, including five DRDO-funded projects for the Ministry of Defence, Elias says the college was looking for "passion and energy".
Even as she steps into one of India's most prestigious institutions, she insists she does not want to disrupt its legacy. "I just want to do some value addition," she says, adding that understanding Gen Z is important to shape future leaders....
