My dream was too important: Ex-Zomato rider cracks DU's FMS
India, May 29 -- Do you know about the former Zomato delivery rider who secured admission at the prestigious B-school, Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi?
Meet Girish Sharma, the 24-year-old Delhiite, whose LinkedIn post (inset) describing the six-year journey went viral across social media platforms.
Speaking to us, he recalls his struggle that shaped his dream of pursuing an MBA while doing several odd jobs such as delivery boy, a call centre executive, and tuition teacher.
"I come from a very humble background and was always very ambitious," says Girish. To support his family and education, he began taking tuition classes in Class X and later worked as a delivery rider in 2020.
During the pandemic, he also sold old books and worked at a call centre to support his family. "But I wanted to pursue something that mattered to me. That's when I realised I wanted to do an MBA but only from a top B-school." While working as a delivery rider, he completed his graduation in BCom from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in 2023.
Preparing for the Common Admission Test (CAT) on his own, he scored 98.94 percentile in 2023 but could not secure admission. "Maybe it was my background or communication skills," he says. He later accepted a job in Hyderabad to financially support his family.
While balancing work and studies, Girish prepared again using free online material and secured 98 percentile in CAT 2025, earning admission to FMS. "This time I knew I had to crack the interview because the dream was too important to let go...Getting into FMS brings me one step closer to giving them a better life. In future, I see myself in a leadership role in a big firm."...
