India, Sept. 11 -- The plan was simple: head to Janpath, browse its familiar lanes, bargain for clothes and trinkets, and return with a haul. But for Delhi University students Riddhi Arora and Ria Kumar, Wednesday afternoon's shopping trip turned into a bummer when they found several of their favourite stalls shut. Their Reel from Janpath, which has clocked 68.3k views, captures their disappointment after they found several familiar street stalls shut. "Mood kharab kar diya," the caption reads, as covered stalls and an unusually quiet stretch replaced the market's usual chaos. "Pehle toh flea shops band dekh kar and road kharab dekh kar I thought maybe MCD has barred the street sellers from setting up shop here," says Arora, a final-year student of Janki Devi Memorial College (JDMC). "But then seeing a lot of popular stalls shut, I couldn't control myself and ended up asking the shopkeepers about what the actual reason was." That was when the duo learnt that heightened security ahead of the BRICS Summit had led to hawkers being moved from parts of the market, Arora says. "In fact, we also don't know when things will be back to normal. My DM is flooded with this question ever since I uploaded the Reel!" Kumar, a final-year student of Keshav Mahavidyalaya, points the Gujarati Lane was still open, while the main Janpath market was shut. "So those coming to Connaught Place must skip it lest they feel disappointed later," she says. The disruption comes ahead of the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13, with security and traffic restrictions in parts of Delhi from today till Sunday. A shopkeeper in Janpath told us that vendors are hopeful things will return to normal after the summit, but there is no confirmed timeline yet.HTC...
