Make way for Phool Walon Ki Sair
India, March 19 -- With Phool Walon Ki Sair underway in the Capital, organisers and performers are now preparing for the festival's closing cultural evening in Mehrauli on Saturday, which is expected to bring together music, spirituality and community participation.
Members of the organising body Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan say that the return of the centuries-old festival after last year's pause in November has renewed enthusiasm among both participants and audiences. "This is one celebration that brings Delhiites from all communities together to offer the floral chaadar and pankha at the dargah of Khwaja Bakhtiar Kaki and Yogmaya Mandir in Mehrauli. When it got cancelled last year, even we were disappointed but are now really happy that the tradition continues. The cultural evening on Saturday will be a special one," says a member.
Performers, too, are looking forward to the all-night event. "This is also the only performance we ever do where the night goes on till 4.30am, the next morning and everyone enjoys qawwalis like there is no tomorrow," says Sufi singer Rais Anis Sabri. "We perform in Delhi a lot but nothing matches performing at this event. Last year jab humne Dama Dam Mast Qalandar perform kiya tab saari audience jhoom uthi thi. Iss saal bhi hum yeh qawwali zaroor gayenge," he adds.
Athar Hayat of the Hayat Brothers, who will perform at the event, says returning to the stage holds personal significance. "Aakhri baar yahan kuch 20 saal pehle qawwali gaayin thi, with my father sa'ab. Returning to the stage means a lot... Teri Rehmaton Ka Dariya and Chhaap Tilak Sab, bahut saari qawwali gayenge... Hum chahte hain that this tradition continues for years to come."...
