Madonna says her biopic was shelved due to fallout with studio
India, June 24 -- Back in 2022, it was announced that Madonna's life story is being turned into a biopic that she would co-write and direct. But the project has officially been scrapped now, and the singer has revealed that the reasons is a falling out with the studio behind the film.
"I worked on my script for two years and spent two years at Universal Studios with the line producers doing budgeting and casting. We had a falling out, me and Universal, regarding budget because I needed [it]. I've had an extraordinary life... so I needed a big budget," the 67-year-old told Interview magazine.
Madonna claimed she even pitched relocating the production to Serbia to make the film on a smaller budget. "Maybe they just didn't believe in me. One of their first reactions was, 'We don't believe you'd stay in Serbia more than four days'," she shared, adding, "I was in limbo when that fell apart, and then Netflix reached out to make a series." But she couldn't use the script she had unless she bought it from Universal Studios for a hefty price.
Universal Studios won a multi-studio auction in 2021 to make a film about Madonna's life, with actor Julia Garner roped in to essay Madonna's part. The studio has not yet reacted to the claims.HTC...
