India, June 20 -- With their second studio album, PUREFLOW pt.1, K-pop girl group LE SSERAFIM confronts a feeling often hidden behind the polished world of pop stardom: fear. Rather than presenting themselves as fearless, the music explores five women navigating the pressures of showbiz and the journey toward embracing imperfections. Released on May 22, the album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart and sold over 500,000 physical copies in its first week. Speaking to us, members, Sakura, Huh Yun-jin, Kazuha and Hong Eun-chae, reflect on fear, growth, and the ideas that shaped the album. Sakura: I think it's difficult for anyone, not just people in K-pop, to say they have no fears... The kind of fear we're talking about in our music can come from the pressure of living up to expectations we have for ourselves... I don't think fear comes from purely negative thoughts. In many cases, it exists because something truly matters to us. Hong Eun-chae: In 2023, Yun-jin gifted me a journal. Whenever I feel scared, I write in it.. Now, when I open the journal to write, I often come across entries about emotions I felt in the past and realise that, with time, they weren't as big as they seemed back then. It reminds me that the fear and hardship I'm experiencing now aren't tangible things, nor are they permanent. Kazuha: We always choose music that conveys our message. With BOOMPALA, we wanted to say, 'Even in the face of fear, we can let go and enjoy the moment together.' Like the Macarena dance, we felt it was important to include elements that anyone could easily join in on. By sampling the Macarena, a song people love worldwide, I think the track delivers an even brighter and uplifting energy. I hope BOOMPALA can bring a sense of positivity and comfort to people. Huh Yun-jin: The biggest answer was respecting each other's pace and differences in lifestyle. You can't change another person, but you can positively influence one another by living authentically and kindly. That's helped us become more compassionate, trusting, honest, and supportive....
