Kim Soo-Hyun gets relief in minor dating case: Police call reports fake
India, May 23 -- South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun has received a major legal breather in the controversy involving late actor Kim Sae-ron, after police reportedly concluded that allegations of him dating her when she was a minor were false.
According to Korean media reports, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office has sought an arrest warrant for Kim Se-eui, head of the controversial YouTube channel Hoverlab, also known as Garo Sero Research Institute. The move follows a police probe into claims circulated by the channel after Kim Sae-ron's death in February 2025, alleging that she and Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship since she was 15.
Kim Soo-hyun's side has consistently denied the allegation, maintaining that the two dated briefly between 2019 and 2020, after Kim Sae-ron had reached adulthood. Police have reportedly stated in the warrant application that key material presented as proof was fabricated. This allegedly included KakaoTalk screenshots in which the name of an unidentified conversation partner was edited to appear as Kim Soo-hyun, and an audio clip that investigators said was manipulated using AI voice-cloning technology.
Kim Se-eui is facing allegations of defamation and violation of laws related to the distribution of private media. Police have also reportedly booked a lawyer linked to Kim Sae-ron's family as a suspected accomplice. Kim Se-eui has denied wrongdoing and claimed the warrant request is aimed at obstructing his reporting.
